On the back loop of the pet trail at Highbanks Metro Park this morning, I
observed a total of 11 Fox Sparrows moving around with House Finches. It
was a good sparrow day with song/field/swamp/white-throated and
white-crowned also present. Good numbers of migrant Yellow-rump warblers
are still present but others migrants appear to be waning including
kinglets, sapsuckers and creepers.

Junco numbers still seem low to me as I only saw a few at Highbanks (no
flocks) and have just 1 in my backyard where a consistent group of
Red-winged blackbirds have been singing this weekend. I was in lower
Michigan earlier this week (about 1 hour north of South Bend, IN) and
observed large flocks of Juncos, Tree Sparrows and Winter Wrens (yes a flock
of over 20 in a buttonbush swamp!) so I think the next NW front may bring
them to central OH in larger numbers. I had just 1 Winter Wren at Highbanks
this morning.

Directions to Highbanks are at www.metroparks.net and park information is on
the OOS web site.

The Commit to be Fit hike is at Highbanks at 1 PM tomorrow so go early if
you want some quiet time on the trails.
