A lone killdeer was a pleasant surprise this afternoon, seen in Sheffield Lake in Lorain County near the west end of the Shoreway Shopping Center, directly across the street from the Sheffield Lake Community Boat Launch on Lake Erie. It was hanging around a patch of soil and grass that had been turned up by a snowplow, at the entrance to a small Christmas tree lot.
