A lakewatch from home in Sheffield Lake (Lorain Co.) started with a bang this morning! At 8:00 A.M. I stepped onto onto the balcony and the first birds I looked at were five Black Scoters, followed by another young intermediate Parasitic Jaeger, headed east.  However, this was certainly the biggest burst of action.  I was joined shortly by Steve Landes, and we added only nine Bonaparte's Gulls, two Common Terns, and six Red-breasted Mergs over the next two hours.  No big teal/pintail flocks like we've seen the past couple days.

We headed on down to Lorain Impoundment which was surprisingly birdy, despite the brutal winds.  Most birds were feeding on or near the ground, and reluctant to flush.  Highlights included two Orange-crowned Warblers, Gray-cheeked Thrush, juv. Red-headed Woodpecker, and ten sapsuckers.

Conneaut was quite birdy for Emil Bacik & I from 1000-1200 yesterday.  The shorebird composition on the spit was different from minute to minute, with two avocets dropping in to join the pair already present, seven White-rumped Sandpipers tallied (including a pure flock of six), as well as a bit of hawk movement - 3 Merlins, 2 Peregrines, and an Osprey.

Good birding -
Gabe Leidy
