"Please join us January 22 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Deer Haven Nature Center
4183 Liberty Road Delaware Ohio 43015. Doors open at 6:30 PM and programs
begin at 7:00 PM and are followed by reports of local bird sightings and
socializing".

Dr. Angelika Nelson will present about Hog Island in her talk, "Escape to
the Island".

Do you ever dream about going to summer camp again? And combining this with
your passion for bird-watching? Hog Island in Maine is the place to go!

Since 1936, birding and environmental education sessions have inspired
thousands of campers to become better stewards of their environment and
share their love for nature.

The camp sessions vary in focus from Joy of Birding, Field Ornithology, and
Raptor Rapture to Arts and Birding.

You may have heard of Hog Island in connection with the successful seabird
restoration program <http://projectpuffin.audubon.org/> Project Puffin.
Steve Kress raised the first translocated pufflings right on the island
before releasing them to the nearby island of Eastern Egg rock.

Join us for a visual and aural escape to the island, learn about being a
summer camper as an adult, and seabird restoration. You may leave as a
friend of Hog Island.

Dr Angelika Nelson is the curator of the <https://blb.osu.edu/> Borror
Laboratory of Bioacoustics at the <https://mbd.osu.edu/> Museum of
Biological Diversity at The Ohio State University. She earned her MS at the
University of Vienna in her home country of Austria and her PhD at the
University of Copenhagen in Denmark. As a behavioral ecologist, her research
focuses on acoustic communication in birds, recently on song dialects in the
white-crowned sparrow along the Pacific Northwest coast. She teaches
Introduction to Ornithology and advises the student Ornithology Club at The
Ohio State University. Angelika has been an instructor for various summer
programs on Hog Island since 2014. In her free time, she enjoys traveling
with her husband Doug, spending time in nature, bird-watching, horseback
riding and taking her dog Inga for walks.
