Greetings all -
Heads up on tomorrow's weather forecast for the greater Cleveland region lakefront: ENE winds at 12 to 15mph + and a low-pressure system rain front may bode well for lakewatchers. While NNW winds are favorable, the northern component to these east-based winds could drive a movement of waterbirds, including Parasitic Jaeger, Brant, and various waterfowl including scoters. A few Common Loons and Horned Grebes could move. A look at the Great Lakes overall shows Northern Gannet showing up at Whitefish Point, MI and scattered jaegers, a variety of geese, scoters, Red-throated Loon and Red-necked Grebe, among other highlights. I think the key is that tomorrow is a singular weather front, (surrounded by days of SW winds) so sheer numbers will likely not be present. But some unique variation might occur, with a few scattered highlights. High bluffs offer the best views. If you're even with the horizon you won't fair as well. Spotting scopes necessary. As is patience and endurance.
Lakefront traps are turning up loads of sparrows (Chipping, Field, Swamp, White-crowned, White-throated, etc.), plus a good showing of sapsuckers, creepers, Winter Wren, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Hermit Thrush, and a few Orange-crowned Warblers.
