*JANUARY 07, 2018 - OTTAWA NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE MONTHLY CENSUS.*
*ROUTES*: Usual morning and afternoon routes (east and west sides in the
morning, back side in the afternoon.)
*TIME*: 8:00am - 11:50am; 1:30pm - 4:10pm  *TEMP.*: 0 ~ 19 ~ 17  *COND.*:
Frigid, cloudy, and windy; winds W/SW at 5-15mph at start, quickly shifting
to S for rest of day;
all impoundments, canals, and ditches frozen; Lake Erie frozen over in the
morning, winds opened up a large lead in the afternoon from Metzger Marsh
to Magee Marsh
in the afternoon.  *OBS. EAST*: Katie Clink, Ed Pierce, Jim Reyda.  *OBS.
WEST*: Jenny Bowman, Donna Kuhn, Dave & Kim Myles, George Novosel, Douglas
W. Vogus.
*OBS. AFTERNOON*: Bob Bartolotta, Matt Bartolotta, Claire Johnson, Nora
Kelly, Ed Pierce, Jim Reyda, Douglas W. Vogus.

*I. MAMMALS: 5 SPECIES.*

   1. Eastern Cottontail - 8
   2. Eastern Fox Squirrel - 5
   3. Coyote - 2
   4. Common Raccoon - 2
   5. White-tailed Deer - 29 (8-pt,8-pt,6-pt,4-pt,23 does,2 unknown)

   Metzger Marsh pier - Third Record on January Census)

   13. Cooper's Hawk - 1
   14. Red-tailed Hawk - 10
   15. Rough-legged Hawk - 2  (light morph along Krause Rd. and dark morph
   along Ottawa-Lucas Rd.)

   17. Red-headed Woodpecker - 7  (6 in the North Woods and 1 in Butternut
   Woods)
