After a successful whirlwind twitch to see the amazing Southern Lapwing in Michigan this week, I didn’t feel like driving far so I went to Black Hand Gorge for some birding and get a walk in. Things were pretty quiet even though it was a pleasant cool morning. The only warblers I had ( heard only) were N Parula, Cerulean and Com YT.

The trip was more than worth it as I saw the family of Trumpeter Swans, 2 adults with one fluffy cygnet. I understand this is the first known breeding of trumpeters in Licking County. The adults did not have bands.

I still have Rose-breasted Grosbeaks and male Ruby-throated HBs coming to my feeders. A red-shouldered Hawk is often around, calling.
