After reading a post of today's date concerning feather loss in Cardinals
I turned my telescope on the busy sunflower feeder to check out the birds
at close range. Of perhaps two dozen cardinals I saw one male and one
female that had some very small scales close to the eyes, no head feather
loss. All the house finches, sparrows, titmice, nuthatch, and doves
looked prime and ready to be photographed.
About a year and a half ago in warmer weather (month ??) I saw lots of
head feather loss in the cardinals and house finches. Some one told me
not to worry, they were just molting ??
