I have followed the recent discussion of nighthawk nesting habitat with some interest, both
the discussion of gravel rooftops and the original natural habitats. I have been trying to think
where such open barren territory might exist for "natural" nests these days. My own
experience with such rocky or gravelly barrens in Ohio is restricted to quarried or mined areas,
and I wonder if anyone has ever encountered nighthawks at or near such places, say for
instance along the heavily birded Lake Erie shore near the old island quarries?
Just a thought...
