I had to be in Lancaster this afternoon so I did some birding at Clear Creek in the morning. It was quite humid but temps in the 70s-low 80’s made it at least tolerable. A number of trees have been downed, from wind or all the rain recently, but the roads were clear.

Had some good sightings of warblers but o/w, it was pretty quiet. I was v pleased to luck out and get good views of a Worm-eating Warbler. I’ve heard them on the hemlock trail in past visits (not today, tho) but hadn’t been able to spot one yet this year. I was enjoying a mixed flock of Hoodeds, KYs, WB Nuthatches, titmice & chickadees plus a loudly scolding Brown Thrasher when I peered into the undergrowth expecting to see a KY and instead saw a lovely Worm-eating gleaning some dried leaves. A Hooded Warbler flew over to also check out the dried leaf bundle but the Worm-eating made it clear it was not in the mood to share & the Hooded took off while the Worm-eating went back to gleaning.
