I wanted to enjoy the good weather so I combined errands with birding.
Denison still doesn’t have much activity but it was a nice day to be out. An adult Bald Eagle did a flyover which is not a common occurrence at Denison so always nice to see. The resident Red-tailed adult was utilizing a bluebird nest box as a perch while a pair of bluebirds was checking out another one.
The towhee I’ve been hearing finally showed itself—a male perched & singing.
Sparrows: Tree, Song & White-throated. A couple juncos were in the same area as the couple Tree Sparrows. Heard Red-wingeds but no grackles today.
I watched a pair of Downy WPs either courting or having a territorial squabble. Much calling & tail-feather fanning plus some chasing. A third Downy was observing from the sidelines. Heard Hairy & Red-bellied.
A pair of mallards are still hanging out at Wood Duck pond—usually one pair breeds there. A few TVs.
At Blendon no Purple Finches but lots of turkeys. Thoreau Lk had a decent variety of ducks: Green-winged Teal (3), Gadwall pair, Ring-necked, Mallard, Black & at least 4 Wood Ducks—a pair & 2 other males. A Cooper’s Hawk flew over the trail, kakking.
A kestrel was hovering over the median on Rt 161.
