Chilly but bright sun. Was glad mud was still frozen when I ventured out; it’s been a muddy mess of late. Still not much around.

Best sighting was a mink drinking at an open hole on the ice on one of the ponds. I’d hoped to get a photo but it quickly became aware of me & scurried into deep cover. V cool to see tho! Ice was quite thin but obviously thick enough to support the mink. I thought I’d seen one running across a path last week but it was such a brief look that I wasn’t sure.

As for birds, I saw a N Mockingbird and heard a towhee call a couple times. There were a few WT sparrows around but otherwise just Cardinals, Blue Jays, titmice and chickadees. There were at least three very bright male bluebirds who appeared to be checking out possible nesting sites. A few TVs. At my feeders before I left I had a Red-winged Blackbird.

A couple evenings ago at the Land Lab, I saw a couple male Red-wingeds doing display flights and calling so maybe spring is coming soon.
