I had a fast-moving mixed flock fly thru around 9:15 this morning. At least 40 birds or so flew out of the west cruising at treetop level. Unfortunately they came in really high and did not stop for long, plus I had to try to ID them against a bright gray sky making identification even harder. I know I missed a lot but I caught up with a few stragglers afterwards including great looks at a Nashville.
Before the flock came through, I’d had common yellowthroat, Redstart, & a nice bay breasted warbler. I also had good looks at a white-eyed vireo which was nice because lately i’ve only heard them. Catbirds and peewees are still around. And I also saw a female Towhee. Cedar Waxwings heard.
There were several red eyed vireos in the mixed flock as well as chickadees and titmice. BG Gnatcatcher and a couple empid sp.
I picked up Tennessee, Black-thr Green, B&W plus more Bay-breasteds, & redstarts in the stragglers. Hate to think what I missed!
When I got home, there was a male Am Redstart & another B&W in my neighbors crabapple tree.
