I checked several areas around Hilliard and nearby Prairie Oaks MetroPark
this morning, stopping at Spindler Rd and Reynolds Parks in Hilliard, and
the Sycamore Plains & Darby Bend Lakes areas of Prairie Oaks. The extended
cold & ice has pushed out most ground feeders, but some sparrows were
bravely hanging in in a few places. The only waterfowl were hugging a few
opening in the ice at Darby Bend Lakes. Included were:

Tundra Swan - 1 of the 3 reported remained at Darby Bend Lakes, with a
small flock of Canada Geese
Raptors - a few scattered Red-tails at different spots were overshadowed by
a nice male Harrier at Spindler Rd.
Woodpeckers - one of the few groups that seemed unfazed by the cold, with
good #s at most spots

WinterWren - 1 at Sycamore Plains trail loop continues the strong showing
of this species recently

Sparrows - scarce, but did have Tree Sparrows (several locations), Field
Sparrow (Spindler Rd), and Swamp Sparrow (Spindler Rd)
Finches - nothing other than a few House Finches & Goldfinches. No
irruptives here.
