I took advantage of the snow covered fields. And went field birding.
I was hoping for Lapland Longspur for Clinton! No... They seem
scarcer this winter than last. Plenty of Horned Larks feeding on
the plowed road edges. And Towhees, Tree Sparrows, WC Sparrows,
etc. when I hit roads through woods area. I looked on ebird for previous
Longspur sightings. And just explored around them. Well, I picked
a spot near to 71! Main roads are fine. Some side roads are fine. And
some were not. I decided against a trip to Highland County for
Longspur because of that. Maybe Sunday after church. I need Longspur
for Highland County. My favorite sighting today was 3 Harriers hunting
the same field! I think that was Center Rd.
I hit the Caesar Creek marina next. Dead. And not plowed. Most of the
lake was frozen.
I might chase the Harris's this week. Please post if anyone chases.
Good birding all.
