8-8:30 am Monday, October 24, one merlin was preening in the tree, exactly where Ms. Schmidt said it was. A very cooperative bird, sitting in the un-leafed top of the tree, and even turning as it preened so that all its features could be appreciated.

Then, in the maple by the oil tanks where the merlins were last winter, =
I saw one bird, plucking
it's kill, a robin. Another merlin flew in and perched on a nearby =
branch and was quickly run off.
Section 27. (Clunky new markers, placed this year, make it easier to =
identify the sections.)

Inga Schmidt
