January 30: about 75 horned larks and 25 Lapland longspurs on north side of west end of Soltis Road before it deadends into Rt. 88 south of the town of Parkman. Were there on 12/29, bet they still are. Gleaning grain from manure. More present than meets the eye among the ground cover with lack of snow.
Among the Amish farms along Patch Road between Rt. 168 (Tavern Road) and Newcomb Road in Parkman Twp. had a pair of kestrels 12/29 with 3 rough-legged hawks, a Coopers hawk and a flock of 9 meadowlarks on 12/30. This section of Patch Road is rivaling Hayes Road (aka “Hawk Alley”) for winter raptors and grain-gleaning tundra birds.
