I had to try that Ohio State University airport spot! But no success. I spent
An hour on the observation deck. Very nice views up there. The habitat looks
Perfect, but this spot is a bit far for me on a regular basis. I live in Oakley, Cin.
Although nice to know they are moving now. I have a couple spots down here
I can keep an eye on. The Clermont County airport for one.
One reason I did head up that way was because I needed to get Logan county
On the ebird map. It was like the hole in a donut - all the counties surrounding It I have birded, but not Logan. I chose the Big Darby creek headwaters
Spot. Wow! I was expecting maybe 10 species - time of day - late afternoon, and
July. And hot. I ended up with 24 species for Logan. And a nice walk through
A Sugar Maple forest, beautiful! Acadian and pewees vocalizing. Chat, eastern
Towhee, indigo bunting, common yellowthroats. Nothing unusual - just nice
To see and hear all these species in July! I look forward to exploring some
Local spots - like Miami Whitewater Hamilton county - to see what’s still vocalizing.
But my highlight was probably the 6 Nighthawks right over my head as I exited
A speedway that I had stopped at on the way home. One even did the booming
Display! This was still late afternoon.
Always something to see out there in nature!
Good birding all.
