At my Bainbridge home this evening, we heard, and then saw fly off from the pines, a saw-whet owl.
My husband had just come in and told me he heard and unusual sound, so I went out to listen.
The owl wasn't making any of the toot series sounds, but just an odd screechy, almost one note call.
I see saw-whets here on occasion, but usually I find them perched, when mobbed by little birds. This was the first time I'd heard one calling.
