I was excited to hear and then see not one but two Prairie Warblers at Denison bio reserve this morning. One was a beautiful male singing and the other was paler so I’m hoping it was a female. There was a bit of chasing going on. I’m hoping this may mean they might nest. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have not heard or seen Prairie Warblers here before but I’ve only been birding it for about 2 1/2 years.

Most other warblers were heard only although the KY gave me a brief look.

The land lab was also fruitful. I had FOY Orchard Orioles, a pair chasing each other around, as well as Baltimore Orioles—nice eye candy. Also had E Kingbirds including one sitting on a nest. Saw a Green Heron in flight. I heard another chat there.

After seeing Rob Thorne’s post about Hebron Fish hatchery, I made a quick stop at the one pool he mentioned was suitable for shorebirds. I had nine dowitchers—Is short-billed the default in spring? I’m terrible at telling the two apart. Also had several peeps that I believe were Leasts as I could see yellowish legs thru the mud & their bills were slightly down-curved. 3 Lesser Yellowlegs and one Spotted Sandpiper. Killdeer. No Pectorals.
