The first flakes of the season started flying during my walk. It was quite picturesque although very quiet bird-wise. Saw the usual White-throated Sparrows and one male towhee that was calling.
Turkey vultures were trying to find some air and there was one black vulture with them. As I was leaving I saw a buteo which initially I thought was a red-tailed but given the brief look, the light & the snow, it might’ve been a red-shouldered.
A Kingfisher was calling and flew to one of the ponds to perch in some thick branches I guess to ride the snow out. I’m not sure I ever seen a Kingfisher in the snow so that was interesting.
I heard a hermit thrush and bluebirds as well plus a few goldfinches.
I was roundly scolded by a group of Carolina wrens which brought in some titmice and chickadees but not much else.
