The northern shrike was again in the fields this afternoon, although
now on
my neighbors side of the powerlines towards Franklin Rd. ( I last saw
it here
on Feb 2.) I watched to see what it was hunting, and saw it grab a bug
of
some sort off the snow, and once off the stem of a little shrub.
He was still in the same area when I checked again at 5:00 pm.

While watching the shrike, a stunning male n. harrier flew by, low
and fast,
carried along on a strong gust of wind.

Two red tailed hawks were also taking advantage of the thaw, and hunting
from low perches over exposed patches of ground.

Inga Schmidt
Chagrin River Road
