We drove around a little this morning and found a few Lapland Longspurs and
lots of Horned Larks. We first found about three Lapland Longspurs with many
Horned Larks on Vernon Catawba Road at livestock enclosure west of the town
of Catawba. Then we found another longspur on Tarbutton Road not too far
west of Route 54 with a large flock of Horned Larks at a livestock pen. We
saw Horned Larks at several other places. We also saw juncos along the roads
in a few places. We couldn't find any Snow Buntings.
