Cathy: I will mail you off-list with the results of a study I did for our
Association a couple of years ago that details how, as Becky points out,
each campus does its FTE calculation. Quick thoughts before I head to an
all-day meeting ...

1. The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges has its own way of
calculating undergraduate FTE, which it uses as its basis for distributing
funds.

2. According to IPEDS, a full-time undergrad is a student taking 12 or more
hours a term; a full-time graduate or professional student is taking 9 or
more hours a term. The undergrad standard was changed from 15 hours about
five years ago.

3. When I calculate public- and private-sector FTEs and compare to the NCA
standard (full time headcount plus 1/3 of the part-time headcount), I find
that the NCA standard understates FTE significantly -- it's more like
full-time headcount plus 45 percent of the part-time headcount.

Subject: FTE calculations

Dear list: My Academic Dean has requested that I find out how FTE is
calculated for
graduate and undergraduate students--that is, the number of hours that are
considered to be full time, for the purposes of calculating FTE graduate,
FTE
undergraduate. For those of you who are state-assisted, how does this
compare to
how HEI computes FTE?

Please provide your calendar (semester or quarter) and the number of hours
considered full time for undergraduate and if applicable, graduate students.

He is especially interested in hearing from Dayton, Muskingum, Ashland,
Tiffin,
Malone and Xavier.

Thanks in advance!

And wasn't the Fall Meeting great! Thanks to the presenters and to Larry
for a job
well done!
