Rodney D. Coates was awarded the 2010/11 Edward Said Award for Poetry and Social Activism by  Sociologists Without Borders at the 2011 American Sociological Association's National Meetings in Las Vegas.  This award recognizes those public scholars who have distinguished themselves through accomplishments that reflect a synergy between literature and culture, on the one hand, and studies and analysis of power, on the other.
