Subject: Upcoming Auditions for Pearl Cleage's "A Song for Coretta"

Dr. Coates- Can you please forward the below message to the Drum Community? Thanking you in advance, Khalid Long.

Upcoming Auditions for Pearl Cleage's "A Song for Coretta"

My name is Khalid Long and I am a 2nd year graduate student in the department of theatre, currently working to obtain a Master of Arts Degree in Theatre Studies - under the advisement and tutelage of Dr. Paul K. Bryant-Jackson. As a component to the research thesis, I will be directing a play this upcoming fall that will be part of Miami's Theatre Department Production Season. I will be directing Pearl Cleage's "A Song for Coretta".
Auditions for the play, "A Song For Coretta", will be held Wednesday and Thursday, August 25 and 26 with callbacks on Friday, August 27.

To audition, you need to sign up in advance for a block of time. Sign-up sheets are posted on the Call Board in the Center for Performing Arts, adjacent to the Green Room (CPA144). Report to the Green Room 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time, and the friendly audition assistants will help you out! The Play calls for Five African-American Female; however, all actresses are encouraged to audition. Auditions are NOT for students only!
Generally, actors are to prepare two contemporary monologues, at least one of which must be comedic. However, it is not mandatory for NON-MAJORS to audition with a monologue. NON-Majors will be required to do a cold reading as their audition piece. If you want more information about how to prepare for the audition or information concerning the play, please contact the plays' director Khalid Long - [log in to unmask]
More information on the play may be found on the Call Board in the Center for Performing Arts and the play is also on reserve in the Music Library.

Play Synopsis:
The date is February 6, 2006. The time is 11:30 pm. In the cold rain, Zora, Helen, Mona Lisa, Keisha, and Gwen hurry down to Ebenezer Baptist Church to join the dwindling line of mourners to say their farewells to the late Mrs. Coretta Scott King, whose body lays in state. Through personal narratives, quarrels and while reflecting openly on Mrs. King's influence, these women come to realize that they are closer in more ways to the beloved woman, now ancestor, than they've ever imagined.

The play will run October 27, 2010 through October 31, 2010 in the Studio 88 Theatre located in CPA.
