Hello,

On behalf of the Institute of Environmental Sciences, I would like to cordially invite you and those organizations/academic departments that you represent to attend our guest lecture on March 25th at 7:30 pm in Boyd Hall. Omar Freilla is a Miami University Institute of Environmental Sciences alumnus who will be coming to talk about his work in the South Bronx as founder of the organization, Green Worker Cooperatives. According to its website, greenworker.coop, the Green Worker Cooperatives is "dedicated to incubating worker-owned and environmentally friendly cooperatives in the South Bronx. Our approach is a response to high unemployment and decades of environmental racism. We don't have the luxury to wait for new alternatives. That's why we're creating them. We believe that in order to address our environmental and economic problems we need new ways to earn a living that don't require polluting the earth or exploiting human labor."

In addition to his lecture Tuesday night, Mr. Freilla will also be discussing the impacts of Environmental Injustice on his community at a symposium being held Wednesday night, March 26th at 5pm in 107 Boyd Hall.

We hope that you will be able to join us. For questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me, Lauren Saulino, at [log in to unmask] or Dr. Sandi Woy-Hazleton, [log in to unmask] or call our office: 513-529-5811.

sincerely,
Lauren Saulino
