The Diane Rehm Show, 10-12 noon (*2 full hours on WMUB)

10-11: Physician-Assisted Suicide: Last month, Congress passed the
Pain Relief Promotion Act, which prohibits doctors from prescribing
medication for the purpose of helping patients to end their own
lives. The vote caused an uproar in Oregon, where an
assisted-suicide referendum has made it legal for doctors to do this.
A panel talks about the status of the assisted-suicide debate in the
U.S., on the state level and now in Congress.
         Guests: Rep. David Wu (D-Ore.); Rep. Dave Weldon (R-Fla.);
Dr. James Lieberman, psychiatrist

11-12 Cheryl Mendelson: Growing up, Cheryl Mendelson spent many happy
hours in the well-kept homes of hergrandmothers. She turned her back
on housekeeping for many years, but has since returned to it with
relish. Now she'swritten a book, part cultural and historical
examination of housework, part how-to manual. It's called "Home
Comforts:The Art and Science of Keeping House" (Scribner).

Fresh Air with Terry Gross, 12:06-1 p.m.

Guest is TV producer and writer MARSHALL HERKOVITZ, part of the team
that created the shows "Thirtysomething," "My SoCalled Life," and the
new show "Once and Again."
