Thursday, November 15, 2001: Thanksgiving Day

Congratulations to Carri Marschner of Oxford, yesterday's winner of
the Palm Pilot donated by Miami University Bookstore in our "Now More
Than Ever" fall fund drive.

THANKSGIVING SPECIAL: Interconnect: Why are You Thankful This Year?
(repeated at 7 pm; no HawkTawk tonight)
In the midst of the world crisis and a war against terrorism,
John Hingsbergen and Cheri Lawson invite listeners to offer
reflections on the meaning of the holiday.

The Diane Rehm Show (10am - Noon); re-broadcasts
Hour one: Laura Hillenbrand: A Thankgiving Day rebroadcast of
Diane's conversation with Laura Hillenbrand, author of the
best-selling book about one of the greatest celebrities of
Depression-era America -- the great racehorse "Seabiscuit" (Random
House). The author talks about the success of this unlikely champion,
and about the personal challenges she faced in writing Seabiscuit's
story. (Original airdate 4/17/01)
Hour two: Mary Ann Glendon: A Thanksgiving Day rebroadcast of
Diane's conversation with Harvard law professor Mary Ann Glendon,
whose book "A World Made New" (Random House) tells the story of
Eleanor Roosevelt's role in the creation of the U.N. Declaration of
Human Rights. (Original airdate 3/13/01)

Fresh Air with Terry Gross (noon - 1pm)
Music veteran NICK LOWE. In his forty-year career, he's
played in rock bands, recorded hits as a solo artist and produced
records for Elvis Costello and the Pretenders; singer DAN ZANES,
formerly of the 80s rock group the del Fuegos, performs folk songs
for kids; and LOUDON WAINWRIGHT performs songs from his new album and
talks about his role in a new hit sitcom.

Public Interest with Kojo Nnamdi (1pm - 2pm); re-broadcast
Ever wonder why chopped onions make you cry? Or why dark meat
cooks slower than white meat? As you prepare your Thanksgiving meal,
learn some hints from Los Angeles Times food editor Russ Parsons
about the science of food, and how understanding the basics can make
you a better cook. Guest: Russ Parsons, Los Angeles Times food
editor; author of "How to Read a French Fry: What Happens When Oil
Meets Water and Other Stories of Intriguing Kitchen Science" (Pub:
Houghton Mifflin)

Talk of the Nation with Neal Conan (2pm - 4pm)
Hour one: POST SEPTEMBER 11TH SPIRITUALITY: Neal talks with
religious leaders and YOU about the role of spirituality and religion
after September 11th.
Hour two: FOOD, FAMILY AND TRADITION ON THANKSGIVING DAY: the
often untold histories about our food traditions and what they tell
about who we are. If your turkey could talk, what would it say about
you?

All Things Considered (4pm - 7pm)
All Things Considered celebrates Thanksgiving Day this year
with Singer/Songwriter Dan Bern. His new CD "New American Language"
takes influences of 50's and 60's folk music, and adds a Generation X
