        The Graying of America.

The Diane Rehm Show (10am - Noon)
        Hour One: News Roundup: A panel of journalists joins Diane 
for review and analysis of the week's top national and international 
news stories. Guests: David Corn, The Nation; Tony Blankley, 
Washington Times; Jeanne Cummings, Wall Street Journal
        Hour two: Robin Wright: Robin Wright of the LA Times 
discusses her book "Sacred Rage: The Wrath of Militant Islam" 
(Touchstone), recently updated and re-released to meet Americans' 
demand for more information on the kind of movements that led to the 
terrorist attacks on September 11th.

Fresh Air with Terry Gross (noon - 1pm)
        Fans of the series "Six Feet Under" can see rebroadcasts of 
the 13 original episodes now on HBO on Wednesday nights. On the next 
archive edition of Fresh Air we feature an interview with the show’s 
creator ALAN BALL. He also wrote and directed the film "American 
Beauty." Also, JOHN POWERS reviews "The Royal Tenenbaums."

Public Interest with Kojo Nnamdi (1pm - 2pm)
        Centuries of immigrants from places as diverse as Syria, 
Argentina, Germany, and Morocco have all influenced the cuisine of 
Israel. Join Kojo and cookbook author Joan Nathan for a 
mouth-watering discussion, from fruit soup to eggplant dip. GUESTS:

Talk of the Nation/Science Friday with Ira Flatow (2pm - 4pm)
        Hour one: FIGHTING DRUG-RESISTANT BACTERIA/MAMMOGRAM 
DEBATE/SCIENCE BOOKS: the value of routine mammograms in fighting 
breast cancer. Plus, a new way of blocking bacterial infections, and 
science books for your holiday shopping list.
        Hour two: THE GOALS OF PHYSICS / SCIENCE GIFTS: competing 
theories of the universe. Plus, the latest scienceand technology 
gifts.

All Things Considered (4pm - 7pm)
        September 11th has prompted people of many religions to 
deliberately go without food for a time, as they call on God for 
peace and healing. Fasting is common to many religions. The Pope has 
called Roman Catholics to a day of fasting today, and Ramadan, the 
Muslim month of fasting comes to a climax this weekend. Why so many 
people are fasting, and what they hope to accomplish.

        This women's ensemble from California has dazzled public 
radio listeners with their appearances on A Prairie Home Companion. A 
holiday collection of exotic seasonal selections from Balkan and 
Slavic nations, sung with Kitka's trademark combination of precision 
and soulfulness.

Do You Hear What I Hear?: A Holiday Folk Tour (Friday, 9 pm)
        Judy Collins hosts musical takes on the holiday season from 
folk artists. Many new originals both thoughtful and tongue in cheek; 
rarely heard traditional carols; and a few holiday favorites. 
Produced by: Paul Ingles of Cedar Creek Studios, with KUNM, 
Albuquerque.
