Sound Health (9am - 10am, repeated 7 - 8pm)
The Healing Effects of Laughter. Guest: Enda Junkins

The Diane Rehm Show (10am - Noon)
Hour One: Evolution vs. Intelligent Design: The theory of
evolution is challenged by people who believe for religious reasons
that the creatures of the earth were made, not evolved. Today another
group is challenging evolutionary science. They say evolution isn't a
scientifically sound theory, and propose an intelligent design
"force" has been at work. Two experts discuss these theories and
their implications. Guests: Eugenie Scott, exec. director, National
Center for Science Education; William Dembski, author of "The Design
Inference" (Cambridge University Press, 1998)
Hour Two: Malika Oufkir: Malika Oufkir tells her dramatic and
true life story in her memoir, "Stolen Lives" (Talk Miramax). She
spent her childhood in Morocco's royal household, as companion to the
King's daughter, but when her father was implicated in an attempt on
the King's life, she and the rest of her family were imprisoned in a
penal colony. She joins Diane to talk about going from the privilege
of the palace to fifteen years of imprisonment, and about how she
managed to escape.

Writer Benson Bobrick, author of "Angel in the Whirlwind: The
Triumph of the American Revolution"

Talk of the Nation with Juan Williams (2pm - 4pm) (with guest host
Steve Inskeep)
Hour One: INTERNATIONAL SLAVERY: Human rights activists say
slavery is a persistent problem in many parts of the world. What can
be done to stop it?
Hour Two: AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS: what's being done to
update the air traffic control system and relieve airport gridlock.

All Things Considered (4pm - 7pm)
Roscoe Conkling was a towering, handsome man from Albany, New
York who entered politics at a young age. By the time he became a
U.S. Senator he was a strong orator and a force in the opposition of
slavery. He died 113 years ago today, after battling his way through
a blizzard in Manhattan.
