        Empire of Conspiracy
        With the assistance of the Friends of Miami University
Library, this Book Club of the Air presentation will feature Dr.
Timothy Melley, Associate Professor of English at Miami, on his book
"Empire of Conspiracy: The Culture of Paranoia in Postwar America."
Live from King Library on the Miami campus; guests welcome (hey, it's
Homecoming!)

The Diane Rehm Show (10am - Noon)
        Hour One: News Roundup; Diane and her guests review the
latest national and international news stories, including updates on
the anthrax investigations, and the latest on military action in
Afghanistan, in the Friday News Roundup. Guests: Jeanne Cummings,
Wall Street Journal; Morton Kondracke, Roll Call; Tom Gjelten, NPR
        Hour two: Oliver Sacks: Neurologist and author Oliver Sacks,
who in his bestselling books like "Awakenings" and "The Man Who
Mistook His Wife For A Hat" has written memorably about fascinating
cases he has observed, presents his own story in a memoir titled
"Uncle Tungsten" (Knopf). He tells of growing up in Britain during
World War Two, and of the uncle who first introduced him to the
wonders of science.

Fresh Air with Terry Gross (noon - 1pm)
        A talk with ALBERT BROOKS. The comedian, actor and director
is starring in the new film "My First Mister."

Public Interest with Kojo Nnamdi (1pm - 2pm)
        National identification cards. Many other countries have
them. And as the U.S. contemplates new domestic security measures,
that option is being considered. Kojo and guests discuss the pros and
cons of national I.D. cards. Guests: 1. Nadine Strossen (NUH-deen
STRAW-sen), President of the ACLU; Professor of Law at the New York
Law School; 2. (1:20-2:00 by phone) Linda Lewis, President and CEO
with The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA
or "am-VAH")

Talk of the Nation/Science Friday with Ira Flatow (2pm - 4pm)
        Hour one: Foreign oil: The President has said that the war
against terrorism will be a long, drawn-out fight. With pieces of U-S
foreign policy up in the air, is it time to re-think America's
dependence on foreign oil? Alternative energy sources, plus a
hydrogen-powered car.
        Hour two: Bioterror: In the wake of the anthrax attacks many
are wondering what other threats America needs to prepare for. US
preparations to fight smallpox and other bioagents.

All Things Considered (4pm - 7pm)
        In New Hampshire this weekend, people will gather around
radios that date back to what some call Radio's golden age. The New
England Antique Radio Club holds its meetings quarterly. What
hobbyists and dealers are swapping and selling
