The Diane Rehm Show (10am - Noon)
Hour One: Foot and Mouth Disease: Thousands of farm animals
are being slaughtered and Great Britain's farmers are in crisis
because of an outbreak of highly contagious foot-and-mouth disease.
The disease isn't passed on to humans but is a devastating blow to a
market already struggling to recover from mad cow disease. A panel
explains what foot and mouth disease is and talks about its impact on
farmers and the agricultural markets. Guests: Dr. Alphonso Torres,
deputy administrator of the Veterinary Service, and Animal and Plant
Inspection Service; Chuck Lambert, economist, National Cattleman's
Beef Assn.; John Vidal, The Guardian
Hour Two: Financial journalist Ann Crittenden examines the
effect of parenting on the pocketbook in her new book "The Price of
Motherhood" (Metropolitan Books). She says that college-educated
women with children pay a "mommy tax" of more than a million dollars
in lost income over the course of their careers.

Fresh Air with Terry Gross (Noon - 1pm)
ASMA JAHANGIR (AHS-mah Juh-HAHNG-Gear) is a womens rights
lawyer in Pakistan and a recipient of the new Millennium Peace Prize
for Women. The award is co-sponorsed by the United Nations
Development Fund for Women.

Public Interest with Kojo Nnamdi (1pm - 2pm)
ANDY JACOBS, JUNIOR. OFTEN CALLED "THE MOST UNORTHODOX PERSON
TO EVER HOLD THE TITLE OF CONGRESSMAN." NOW RETIRED, THE MAN WHO
CHALLENGED THE NATIONAL ANTHEM AND REFUSED PAY RAISES JOINS KOJO ON
THE NEXT PUBLIC INTEREST. Andy Jacobs, Jr., retired U.S. Congressman
(D-IN); author of "Slander and Sweet Judgment: The Memoir of an
Indiana Congressman (Pub: Guild Press, Zionsville, IN); and author of
"The 1600 Killers: A Wake-up Call for Congress" (Pub: Alastair Press,
Greenwood, IN)

Talk of the Nation with Juan Williams (2pm - 4pm)
Hour One: VICE PRESIDENT DICK CHENEY'S ROLE IN THE BUSH
ADMINISTRATION: He's the go-to-guy in the White House, responsible
for everything from the appointments to the budget to breaking tied
votes in the Senate. Dick Cheney is one of the President's most
influential advisors. Guests examine the pivotal role Dick Cheney
plays in the Bush White House and how it differs from that of
previous administrations.
Hour Two: WORLD POPULATION TRENDS: The world is experiencing
a huge population shift to the third world. A new report by the
United Nations projects that by the year 2050, the African population
will be triple that of Europe and India will replace China as the
world's most populous nation.

All Things Considered (4pm - 7pm)
The globalization of disease: New diseases are coming to the
U.S. with insects hitch-hiking rides in used tires. New arrivals
include the Asian mosquito.
