Today's Talk Shows on WMUB (http://www.wmub.org)

Thursday, October 18, 2001

the Todd Mundt Show (9am -10am)
In 1951, TV was in its infancy. The Columbia Broadcasting
System decided to bring some of its radio stars to the new medium.
One transplant was Lucille Ball; the move worked quite well. Writers
Madelyn Pugh Davis (pew-davis) and Bob Carroll, Jr. were there at the
beginning, cranking out a script a week for Lucy and Ricky. Hear
their story.

The Diane Rehm Show (10am - Noon)
Hour one: Bush in China: This week, President Bush will
attend the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, held this
year in Shanghai, China. Diane and her guests talk about the
challenges Bush will face in getting Asian leaders' support in the
international fight against terrorism.
Hour two: Caroline Kennedy: Caroline Kennedy talks about the
poetry anthology she's edited. "The Best-Loved Poems of Jacqueline
Kennedy Onassis" (Hyperion) includes her mother's favorite poems and
literary passages, as well as other poems significant to members of
the Kennedy family. She'll talk about how her mother passed on her
love of literature to her and her brother, and about how she's trying
to do the same with her own children.

SPECIAL: NPR coverage with Talk of the Nation's Neal Conan (noon - 4pm)
Pre-empts regular programming from noon - 2 pm.
Hour one: NEWS UPDATE: WAR ON TERRORISM: As the U-S war on
terrorism continues in Afghanistan, here at home Americans are on
high alert as more cases of exposure to anthrax are reported.
Reporters and analysts talk about the cases of anthrax exposure in
Washington, New York and Florida PLUS the latest developments in the
war on terrorism.
Hour three: IS OUR PUBLIC HEATH SYSTEM READY FOR A
LARGE-SCALE BIOTERRORISM ATTACK? Although there have been plenty of
scares, so far, just a handful of letters have actually contained
anthrax. But, health officials are concerned that people are hoarding
the antibiotic Cipro.
Hour four: U-S ECONOMY AND CONSUMER SPENDING: Federal Reserve
chairman Alan Greenspan says the economic impact of the September
11th terrorist attack is not as bad as people thought it might be.
But he also says the U-S economy hasn't "snapped back" either.

All Things Considered (4pm - 7pm)
How several of the suspected September 11 hijackers managed
to get drivers licenses and ID cards from the Virginia Department of
Motor Vehicles. Thousands of illegal immigrants got ID the same way.
It took the events of September 11 to finally put an end to the
practice.

coming up soon in local talk
        (live and interactive 9am - 10am, repeated 7pm - 8pm)

tomorrow on WMUB Forum with Darrel Gray
Fields of Honor. Guest: Sally Pont, author of "Fields of
Honor," about the Cradle of Coaches at Miami. Booklist says: "A
remarkable lineage of great college football coaches began shortly
after World War II in Miami, Ohio, where Sid Gillman was head coach.
From Gillman, either directly or indirectly, came Woody Hayes, Bo
Schembechler, Paul Dietzel, Ara Parseghian, and Johnny Pont. Author
Pont, niece of Johnny, examines these founding fathers of the college
game and reflects on her own life around football (her father,
brother of Johnny, was the line coach at Yale University for 28
years)."

Sunday on Talk of the Week (4pm -5pm)
A repeat of a previous week's talk show.
