Aw Dave. Unfortunately, there's no huge bankroll here (wait a
minute--who's going to Mexico for Spring Break? ;o). I just got some
freebies in the mail that I can use for teaching and outreach purposes.
If it makes you feel better, I'll send you a sock feeder too ;o)
By the way, this Harris's Sparrow was a lifer for me. Back on January
1st of 2000, Bill Pratt, of Oxford, and I did a CBC at Muscatatuck NWR.
While we were there we heard that a Harris's Sparrow had been spotted
earlier that morning along a road, further north in eastern Indiana,
where cracked corn had been spilled to attract sparrows (I don't
remember the specific location). That particular sparrow was reported
to be traveling with a flock of House Sparrows. Unfortunately, by the
time we arrived that afternoon the Harris was gone. So I was pretty
happy that this particular individual in Holmes County showed up and has
been hanging around for as long as it has been. It will be interesting
to see how this next round of winter weather might impact it. The boys
who reported it remembered that the night before it was first seen was a
particularly windy evening.
Good luck to everyone on this set of quiz birds!

Greetings!!!
On Sunday we banded the feeders at the Ecology Research Center just
north
of Oxford as part of our training for our up-coming banding /
neotropical
migrants workshop to the cloud forest of northeasten Mexico [El Cielo
Biosphere Reserve] over spring break with our Birds without Borders
program. We have banded over 150 birds in the past three weeks at the
ERC.
I have included three individuals we banded yesterday (two pictures of
individual 4). Unlike Casey, I don't have a huge bankroll to give away
cool
stuff (but my server works pretty well), however I'm think we have some
challenging photo's for your enjoyment (although certainly more mundane
than Harris's Sparrow!!!)
Good Luck
Dave
