Anyone need Surf Scoter for the Skyline Chili Challenge (see message
below)? To get there from Oxford take US 73 to US 68 (Wilmington). In
Wilmington you'll pick up 730 (I believe you head south on 730) past
Cowan Lake State Park. Robert's Horse Arena is easily seen on 730
(there's a big sign & miles of fencing...think Kentucky horse country).

For those who've been birding the area for a number of years you may
recognize Wilmington as the location of the infamous Snowy Owl of some
years back.

I'm not sure what kind of site fidelity this bird will have at this time
of the year, but can't imagine that it will hang around too long, though
I seem to remember a female Surf Scoter that hung around for about a
week or two near Buck Creek State Park about 4 or 5 years ago.

Good luck!

Casey

This pm there was a female Surf Scoter at Robert's pond on SR 730 south
of Wilmington. This pond is near Robert's Arena.
