Subject: [Ohio-birds] Camp Dennison Eurasian Wigeon

I'm posting this for Bob Foppe who just called me at 4:20 PM today (Thursday February 1st) on his cell from the Camp Dennison gravel pits to tell me he just found a male Eurasian Wigeon. The bird can best be seen from the middle pull off along Rt. 126, the same place as the recent Long-tailed Duck was best seen from. This pull off is about midway between the entrance drive to the south and the Aim building to the north. The bird is in the company of American Wigeon and was seen in the large, or main pond beyond the small bridge.

The Camp Dennison gravel pits (Ohio Atlas, page 75, C-5) are located in extreme eastern Hamilton County along the west side of the Little Miami River. From the intersection of US 50 & Rt. 126 in Milford, go a few miles north on Rt. 126 to the Camp Dennison gravel pits. From 1-71 & I-275, go east on I275 for about 5 miles and take the Wards Corner Rd. exit # 54. Go south on Wards Corner Rd. a couple of miles to Rt. 126 in Miamiville. Turn left and go a short distance to the first stop sign. Turn right (your still on Rt. 126), cross the bridge over the Little Miami and the pits are on your left.
