Greetings... Lori Brumbaugh found a pair of Blue Grosbeaks in the
northeast corner of the VOA the week of July 16. Karen Wolnik and I
found the pair and a juvenile bird last Friday. I've attached a photo
Lori Brumbaugh sent me of the male grosbeak. I'm guessing it's a
first-summer / first alternate plumaged bird. There's another male
Blue Grosbeak on the far northwest end of the VOA. The NW adult looks
like a classic "field guide" adult male. Its territory seems to cover
the area from the north end of the sled hill to MetroPark's parking
lot, and across Hamilton-Mason Road, to the weedy/shrubby area over
there.
There are a still a few Bobolinks around--all in full molt. I found a
group of fifteen this evening in the shrubby/weedy area near the south
edge of the lake. At least six Henslow's Sparrows were singing, as
well.
Take care,
