Greetings... There were 15+ Bobolinks at at the VOA this evening,
including at least three females. The females are extremely popular.
There were three Henslow's Sparrows singing around 8:00 p.m., as well.
Last Monday, I stumbled upon an adult Woodcock and a recently hatched
Woodcock at the VOA.
Paul Wharton found a few Henslow's Sparrows at Miami-Whitewater
Wetlands (also known as "Shaker Trace,") a couple weeks ago. At least
three were there Friday evening. They are along the farm road, near
the bike trail, and between Oxford Road and the bat house--roughly
near where the Russells run their fall banding station at MWW.
Hopefully, these Henslow's will stick around.
Finally, another shameless appeal for help . . . if you come across
any fields hosting grassland birds this spring or summer, please drop
me or Jeff Brown a line, if you could. Any place with even a
Meadowlark or two would be a nice start.
Take care,
---Mike Busam
