To the list:
Here at St.Michael's I have noticed we have a number of hoses
labeled "fire hose for use by occupants" around campus. In some areas the
cabinet and standpipe are there, but the hose has been removed and there is
no label. In areas where there ARE hoses, they are in good condition but
there is no inspection tag, as on fire extinguishers.
We made it through a state labor and industry inspection last year
(the college requested it) and this issue did not come up, so I don't know
if we are all set or if it was just overlooked....
QUESTIONS:
Do we have to have annual inspections / tags if they are there?
If this turns out to be expensive maintenance (contractor hired,
hoses replaced on a schedule, etc) can we simply eliminate them by removing
the hoses?
If the cabinet is there with no hose rack and no hose, but a
standpipe, do we have to PUT a hose in there, or is it considered a fixture
for the fire service only in this context?
Should we provide training for college employees if these hoses are
in their "workplace?"
Any other thoughts/comments? These hoses are currently in areas of
"concern" to us- the foodservice which has BC extinguishers and hood
coverage but no A coverage, and our theatre department which at times has
HUGE fuel load.
Thanks.
