Dan I share your concern; however, I feel that we are whistling in a wind
storm. I seem to have read some where that some designers take their design
inspiration from the garb of the street e.g. for example the minnie skirt.
Now miniskirts are seen in many offices and probably some courts. men on the
other hand being somewhat more reactionary and slower to accept change are
just now considering "business casual" as OK.

Subject: Campus Parties

Hi All,

Just a note to let you know that the fall ALSB newsletters are being mailed
today. But I have another issue to ask you about.

I was having a discussion with my upper-level bus-law class students when
the topic of parties (not political; but the "fun" kind) came up. I was
horrified and incensed to learn that a common theme party hosted by both
fraternities and sororities here at Miami each year is something called a
"pimp and 'ho" party in which the man dresses up like a "pimp" and the woman
like a prostitute.

This is beyond my belief. I immediately launched into a mini-diatribe on
exploitation and stereotypes and even commented that maybe we should have
plantation owner-slave parties or cowboy-Indian parties, or better yet, why
not Nazi-Jew parties set in a concentration camp setting.....my biting
sarcasm was lost on the students.

Have any of you ever heard of such a thing? A good relevant question is
whether the University can or should step in on matters such as these.

Dan
