Greetings to All:

Despite any misunderstandings of Ginny's response to Kimberlianne,
her suggestions were right on point to anyone interested in becoming an
officer, regional, national, etc. Furthmore, as the current Sec-Treas. of
SALSB, I recognize the increasing importance that more members step forward
to assume a three or four year commitment to a regional or the national in
order to insure that all of us are provided a meaningful (and professional)
annual meeting experience.

More members need to self-identify as being interested in serving,
first at the regional level. After that, the person can judge whether
further service is of interest. I support Ginny's simple points for success
as an officer candidate, but more importantly, ask that all members
(especially newer members) consider taking on the responsibilities of a
regional officer. Do not be intimidated. Although you may want to delay
participation until after the tenure issue is settled favorably (and
understandably so) at that point think hard about what I have proposed.
Without a constant flow of new members willing to serve at all levels, the
future of our organization will hit some snags.

I hope all of you will favorably respond to the need for greater
participation as I have described, and I call on our national officers to
make this a point of emphasis during the upcoming years.

Oh.

I'm a little slow.

But Kimberlianne is fanastic.

Ginny: I think this question about being an officer referred to the
theme of NO and Mardi Gras ... and what a good time we all think
y'all
will be having. Please eat some of that delicious food for me!

Run. Hard. At the right time. When is the right time? Attend some
meetings. Take on some responsibilities. Do them well. Get involved
with a regional or a section and take leadership there. Or get
involved with one of the journals. Over time people feel comfortable
with your ability to lead and get things done. Then when the time
seems right, run for office. You'll be good at it.
