Thanks Jack. Your points are entirely correct. I am nearly at the end of the
cycle as officer, but it was a wonderful and rewarding experience. I was not
someone who knew a large number of people in the ALSB when I first came onto the
Executive but the election process is open and definitely not dominated by
cliques and old boy/girl networks. This is a great organization but it always
needs people who are prepared to step forward and do the tasks the rest of us
depend upon for our professional lives. I hope this year we have two, three,
four or more great candidates putting their names in the hat for each new
regional and national office. And the year after, and the year after that. This
is not nor should it be a big ego thing -- just an important aspect of service
in our profession.
