DETAILS:
The Diane Rehm Show (10 am - noon). Diane is expected to return today.
Hour 1: Missile Defense: Former President Bill Clinton
declined to make a decision before leaving office about whether the
U.S. should move forward with a missile defense program. A panel
talks about President George W. Bush's declared intention to proceed,
despite the disapproval of much of the rest of the world, including
U.S. allies. Guests: Joseph Cirincione, Carnegie Endowment for
International Peace; Bates Gill, Brookings Institution; H. Baker
Spring, Heritage Foundation
Hour 2: Thomas Frank: According to lots of people, the
economic boom of the past decade has been great for America. Social
critic Thomas Frank is NOT among those boosters. His new book, "One
Market Under God" (Doubleday), outlines the downside of the "new
economy."
Fresh Air (noon - 1 pm)
A talk with the creators of two of the most instantly popular
programs in television history. "Survivor" and "Who Wants to Be a
Millionaire?" each captured massive American audiences. Now the shows
British creators are set to conquer everyone else. They've licensed
the shows to countries around the world.
Public Interest (1 - 2 pm)
Tech Tuesday: The Computer Guys. HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR
COMPUTER? CALL THE COMPUTER GUYS. PC GUY JOHN GILROY AND MAC GUY TOM
PIWOWAR (PEE-VO-VAR) FILL US IN ON THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN THE
WORLD OF COMPUTERS AND ANSWER ALL YOUR QUESTIONS.
Talk of the Nation (2 - 4 pm).
Hour 1: ISRAELI ELECTIONS: Today, Israelis go to the polls to
elect a new Prime Minister. Right wing party leader Ariel Sharon is
ahead of Prime Minster Ehud Barak among likely voters. Sharon has
long been viewed as a hard-line military man and some are concerned
that his victory could end any chance for peace in the Middle East.
Hour 2: REAGAN'S 90TH BIRTHDAY AND HIS LEGACY: First he was a
movie star, than a California governor, and finally U.S. President.
Today, former President Ronald Reagan marks his 90th birthday -- and
his political ideas and image are more prevalent than ever. A
conversation with some who knew him personally.
All Things Considered (4 - 7 pm)
New signs in Los Angeles label the city, like museum labels
for paintings. One billboard hanging over a freeway reads: "Red
Glowing Lights. Materials: brake lights and asphalt." It's an attempt
by The Museum of Contemporary Art to bring in visitors.
