Hour One: Senate Switch: On Thursday, Vermont Senator James Jeffords
is expected to announce that he's leaving the Republican Party. This
switch would put the Democratic Party in control of the Senate, and
drastically change political alliances and operations in Washington.
Diane and her guests talk about how Jeffords' decision affects the
nation's capital. Guests: Charlie Cook, National Journal and Cook
Political Report; Marshall Wittman, Hudson Institute; Dale Bumpers,
former US Senator (D-Arkansas)
Hour Two: William MacLeish: Journalist William MacLeish discusses his
life as the son of poet Archibald MacLeish in his memoir "Uphill with
Archie" (Simon & Schuster). He tells of growing up in a household
where his parents' friends were literary giants, and talks about how
he began to emerge from the shadow of his own father's legend.

Fresh Air with Terry Gross (Noon - 1pm)
The history of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment in America. Hear
from doctor and medical historian BARON LERNER, whose own mother
battled the illness.He talks about his new book "The Breast Cancer
Wars", which largely focuses on the rise and fall of the radical
mastectomy.

Hour One: STANDARDIZED SCHOOL TESTS: standardized tests are becoming
the norm in many schools. Inaccuracies have been discovered in how
these high-stakes tests are graded, and protests are spreading.
Hour Two: W.C. HANDY BLUES AWARDS: A celebration of American blues
music, live from the W.C. Handy Blues Awards in Memphis with blues
musicians Taj Mahal, Clarence Gatemouth Brown and Deborah Coleman.

All Things Considered (4pm - 7pm)
Bob Dylan is turning sixty years old. We'll hear some singers pay
tribute. One calls Dylan a "musical genius." Another says he "changed
the face of songwriting for everyone who came after him." Songs by
the Bard of Minnesota, in honor of his sixtieth.
