The Southern Academy of Legal Studies in business publishes our journal
on-line (exclusively on-line as of the 2002 issue), under the stewardship
and editing of editor-in-chief Marcia Staff and the Associate Editor (and
web-master / technical guru) Joseph Zavala. Joseph is the person who has
pushed us in this direction and handled the technical aspects of it. To see
our journal, go to www.salsb.org -- and please congratulate Marcia & Joseph
when you see them for their incredible work on making this happen.

Subject: Section/Regional Journal Suggestion

ALSB members and especially Section and Regional Officers:

Here's something to ponder: one of the reasons for NOT sponsoring a journal
was the cost of printing and mailing....it seems that with electronic
journals being relatively easy to format and get online, this impediment may
have disappeared. It took me about an hour to get the 2000 National
Proceedings on-line once they had been reduced to disks. That's 17 papers
plus the table of contents, editor's forward, etc.

We've had some intermittent attempts at online journals: for example, the
Emp/Labor Law Section does have an issue of their Quarterly on line, but it
is from 1999 (see the webpage under ALSB Publications). A number of the
section newsletters are already online.

It seems to me, that each section and each regional might consider having an
on-line journal, even one that only comes out just once per year. It would
provide our members with even more outlets for scholarly work.

Now, the difficult part is that such an endeavor still requires an
editor(s), dedicated reviewers, and a willingness to work. But, the ALSB
has never been short of hardworkers.....

So, this is just a thought to consider at section meetings this August in
Albuquerque and at the regional meetings beginning with Rocky Mountain in
September. I'd be happy to share my limited experience in this with anyone
(it is ridiculously easy, I'm ashamed to admit).
