The credit for that great line goes to Amy Benjamin.  NCTE editors
picked up on it early for promotional material for the book.

Ah, Herb,
Yes, the skunk image is vivid indeed (Brock's brainchild, I believe).
While I may wish that the aspect had been perfective -- "Grammar has
been the skunk," thereby signalling that we're beyond that now, -- the
rest of the book is indeed very alive with and for grammar.
