Congratulations to Dan Herron for his continuing outstanding work as the
director of Miami's Mock Trial program, as well as to the others who helped
him with the teams this year, Professors Wayne Staton and Daniel Haughey,
economics graduate assistant and Miami Mock Trial alumnus Andrew Hogan, and
attorney Angela Haughey. At this year's National Mock Trial Finals in Des
Moines, Iowa, Miami's top team came in 3rd in the nation, and their second
team came in 16th. Miami also had the highest rated attorney in the
tournament, as well as a witness who was selected as an All American
witness. What their team has done is especially impressive considering
that their are over 270 colleges and universities nation-wide which field
more than 500 mock trial teams.
It wasn't just the teams getting recognition at the finals this year. Dan
Herron was awarded the 2004 Congressman Neal Smith Award. This award is
presented each year by the American Mock Trial Association's Board of
Directors to an educator/coach in intercollegiate mock trial who has made a
significant and outstanding contribution to law-related education. Keep up
the good work, Dan!
