If you university has a GOOD, streamlined process by which professional
practices grievances against faculty members are evaluated (probable
cause), heard and reviewed, please send me a word attachment of the
process during the next week and a half. This would not include the
tenuring process, but would include steps to detenure/dismiss a faculty
member from the university for ethical violations or dereliction of
duties, or copyright violations ... as well as providing a forum for
handling minor violations with lesser sanctions. At present our Faculty
Handbook has a cumbersome web of alternatives varying with the nature of
the proposed outcome/remedy (major sanctions) rather than starting all
grievances at the same point and branching later depending on whether or
not dismissal has been recommended.
