I visited Treaty Line Road and Dunlapsville Causeway at Brookville
Lake (Union Co.) this morning. I was joined by Dave Russell for part
of the time. A few surprises; highlights were:
Double-crested Cormorant 150
Great Egret 9
Black Vulture 2
RUDDY DUCK 1 (basic plumage male, early, Dave Russell spotted this
bird among the scattered gulls at Dunlapsville)
A good variety of shorebirds including a few Stilt Sandpipers at the
Treaty Line mudflats, but much reduced from Thursday evening's
counts. Lake levels continue to drop slightly exposing some really
great habitat. Wish this had happened in late July/August!
SANDERLING 4 (1 juv. at Treaty Line, 3 adults on island south of
Dunlapsville Causeway)
Caspian Tern 1
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER 1 (Treaty Line Road, early)
White-eyed Vireo 5 (still singing)
Red-breasted Nuthatch 1 (southern Wayne Co.)
Sedge Wren 1 (Hubble Road)
Warblers: nice numbers of Tennessees but not much diversity.
Tennessee Warbler 25
Nashville Warbler 1
Magnolia Warbler 1
Bay-breasted Warbler 1
American Redstart 3
Common Yellowthroat 5
Scarlet Tanager 1
Common Grackle 9000+ (Liberty roost exodus)
House Finch 55
Total of 75 species for the morning.
